Christmas Nails

Hello my loves!

So this year I have really been struggling to get into the festive spirit so I thought what better way than Christmas nails.

I don’t tend to use my gel products that often as the formula tend to dry out my nails which is the last thing you need in the colder months but what better occasion than Christmas to do something a bit special.

I didn’t want to go too crazy and out there with the design so I decided on French Manicure meets Santa with a it of festive sparkle.

It was fairly simple to achieve with first brushing on the classic French Mani and then waiting for it to be completely set with the UV lamp. I then used a bit of nail tape to cover the majority of the nail to prevent the glitter from creating a mess. You can get gel colours that already have glitter in the colour but I have always found that using loose gives a better finish and sparkle even though it is the more fiddly option. Simply layer/pat the glitter over a clear base coat till you get your desired look then apply a top coat.

The finished look did come out a tad messier than I desired but overall I’m happy with it.

What nail looks have you gone for this Christmas?

Friday Favourite

Hello my loves!

Now I know what you may be thinking, a Christmas Candle in February? Well my favourite type of scents like a lot of people are rich cinnamon based smells which basically means my flat smells like Christmas all year round. Don’t get me wrong I love lighter floral/clean scents in the Summer but there’s just something about traditional Christmas scents that just make me feel cosy and warm which is definitely needed with the current Scottish weather.

I picked this set up in the Christmas sales and have been putting off burning it as I thought it was just too pretty to use but I can always keep the little tumbler and find some use for it.

This is the gorgeous Christmas Wish Home Collection by Neom Organics.

The set itself contains a single wick 150g candle with approximately 35 hours burn time and a matching room mist.

The smell itself is a gorgeous mix of mandarin, cinnamon and Tonka bean and is a part of Neom’s Destress Range.

The fragrance is so strong, with an amazing throw that fills the whole of my lounge and the scent can even be smelt in the next room.. it’s such a good quality candle, with such a pure scent due to high percentage of essential oils within the wax. You really can detect all three notes whilst the candle is alight.

It’s the epitome of glamour, luxury and organic goodness – all among the reasons I’ve come to adore Neom beauty and home fragrances.  Real passion goes into these products… and you can tell.

Do you have any candle suggestions for me? What are your favourite scents?

Christmas Baking

Love a bit of baking for the chilly weather

I think we can all agree that Christmas is the perfect time for a spot of baking, whether that means making your christmas pudding, mince pies or like myself perfecting those cookies to give to Santa.

Here’s the recipe for my favourite cookies.

You will need

  • 150g salted butter, softened
  • 80g light brown muscovado sugar
  • 80g granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 225g plain flour
  • ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 200g plain chocolate chips or chunks ( I also used some white chocolate chips)

Your first going to want to make sure your oven is pre-heated around 170-180C, we have an Rayburn which is always on at this time a year so the temperature is more an approximate.

Put the butter and sugars into a bowl and beat until nice and creamy, I use an electric whisk but if you want to do it by hand your more than welcome, next beat in the vanilla extract and egg. Sieve the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt over the mixture and mix in with a wooden spoon. Add the chocolate chips and stir well, you don’t want the mixture to be to smooth at this point so the cookies will have some texture.

Using a teaspoon, place small mounds of the mixture well apart on the baking trays. My top tip is to use  a silicon spatula as it makes the mixture come of the spoon much easier. Bake in the oven for 8–10 mins until light brown on the edges and still slightly soft in the centre.

Then simply leave to cool down on a cooling rack.

I love this recipe as it’s so simple and you can easily mix the ingredients to your taste for example change the sugar to soft brown if your not a fan of cookies being too sweet.

What are your favourite things to bake this time of year?

Nails of the Week

As my Christmas Spirit has finally set it I thought it was time to finally embrace a bit of sparkle in the nail department. As some of you may know I’m a beauty/spa therapist and one of the perks of the job is treating yourself to some treatments. For me this meant finally getting my nails done.

So I booked out some time with my salon bestie so she could spruce up my nails for the festive period .

iced vpour

The colour I chose was Shellac’s Ice Vapour which I think is the perfect choice for Christmas sparkle. It’s a fine silver glitter polish over a clear base which means it looks fab on it’s own (we did have to do 2/3 layers to build it up) or you can add it over your fave shade to transform it into a whole new colour. I think it would look amazing over black to look like stars in the sky.

What is your go to nail colours for Christmas?

Lush Sale Goodies

Hi everyone, today’s post is bound to be like one you’ve seen a million times, it’s a Christmas Lush Haul! The Christmas range from Lush is my absolute favourite, so while they’re available I like to stock up! I only went for bath products, but they’re by far my favourite types of products to buy from Lush, lets get onto what I picked up!

Starting off with Bath Melts, I bought The Melting Snowman, it’s so cute I couldn’t resist! He’s made from almond oil and cocoa butter so he makes your skin feel super soft. Then I picked up Star Light, Star Bright, this one is scented with ginger and lime and completely smothered in glitter!

Next up Bath Bombs, I picked up the Luxury Lush Pud, I’m obsessed with the colours in this one, it smells like ylang ylang and lavender. I also picked up the Butterbear. This little guy is the same as Butterball but in a little bear shape, made with cocoa butter and scented with vanilla make him super creamy.

Onto Bubble Bars, I bought Holly Golightly, I think this one looks amazing, definitely has the wow factor, it’s gorgeously spicy scented, again covered in glitter and creates loads of green bubbles! Next I picked up The Christmas Hedgehog, he’s the sweetest little thing! Scented with rose and ylang ylang, this fella is so cute! Another cute little guy is the Christmas Penguin, he smells like lemon and mandarin and was too precious to leave on the shelf! Finally I picked up one of my all time faves, Candy Mountain, it smells super sweet like Snow Angel and creates a ton of pink bubbles, what more could a girl want?!

What have you picked up from the Lush sale?

The Christmas Tag

1. What is your favorite Christmas film?

Probably Love Actually, because it’s just so bloody good.

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

Growing up I had a few white Christmas as I’ve lived in Scotland my whole life. However, my first white Christmas I was about seven years old when I visited my grandparents in the Highlands.

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

At home with my family. We don’t like to travel but love when family comes up to see us!

4. What is your favorite Christmas song?

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Michael Buble or All I Want for Christmas Is You. Both miraculous songs. And I just love Michael Buble *fangirl sigh*

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Yes. My brother and I have figured out at this point that every year we are allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve and it’s always pajamas. And it is always the best gift because then I get to wake up Christmas Day with new pajamas!

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Dasher, Prancer, Donner, Vixen, Rudolph…no

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

Christmas morning after we open presents and my entire family sits in their jim jams and eats a special Christmas breakfast and we just laugh and talk and be a family. This year has been really crazy for all of us, so I’m looking forward to spending some holly jolly fun with them.

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Real, nothing smells better.

9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?

Anything with the word ‘cookie’ in it is usually good or gingerbread.

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

In all honesty, I couldn’t tell you. As always, I look forward to the gifts that people are getting me this year and all that jazz. However, now that I’ve done my Christmas shopping, I’m really excited to see everyone’s faces after they open them. They are both great feelings.

11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

I’ve received a lot of great gifts over the years, but I think the one that I remember just being the overall best was the dollhouse my dad built. It was amazing!

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

New York. I would do anything to go see the Rockefeller tree and then see the ball drop on New Years’.

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I am sort of a bit of both, it depends what I’m wrapping. My mother has the real talent, I usually put a nice boy on it to Jazz it up and hide any mistakes.

14. Most memorable Holiday moment?

There have been a lot, but I think one of my favorites has to be when we see the Nutcracker. Growing up, when we lived closer to the city, I used to go see a professional production every year. For the past eight years I haven’t seen one. This last weekend I flew to the city and my mother and I were able to see a production. Getting to see those performances makes Christmas so great.

15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?

There’s a rule in my family. No belief in Santa, no Santa presents. I can’t tell you the exact age that the illusion was shattered, but I always kept the idea that I believed alive. I have a little brother and although he no longer believes, I tried to keep on the legacy. I don’t believe there is a man who comes down my chimney, but I do believe in the belief of Santa.

16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?

Yes. In the past I’ve made resolutions that have just become ridiculous and end up never being fulfilled. I have now started to make realistic resolutions and I’ve been sticking to them. So go me!

17. What makes the holidays special for you?

Being able to get away from all the stress of school and work and concentrate on my friends and family. I am so blessed to have such amazing people in my life and being able to spend time with them makes the holidays special.

That is my Christmas tag! If you want to answer them too, either reply in the comments OR if you have your own blog, post them and put the link in the comments OR if you are on YouTube, post a video and put the link in the comments. I want to know more about you!

Have a holly jolly Christmas!

Hi lovelies! Today I went shopping in the sales and while I had very little luck in the clothing department, I did find these little beauties hiding at the till point in Clinton Cards! They weren’t marked as sale items, but I figured as they were Christmas scents they probably were and I was right! One thing I always need at Christmas is more candles and these babies were down from £7.99 to just £3.99 each, which is amazing for such gorgeous quality candles, so how could I possibly say no?DSCF2727

Bomb Cosmetics Candles are very similar to Lily Flame candles, all presented in gorgeous little tins, with cutesy packaging and pretty little coloured wax shapes (in this case cute little hearts) stuck into the candle itself. Despite having Christmas names, I thought these two would still be appropriate for after christmas as they’re not obviously Christmassy looking and the scents are both pretty, sweet, girly scents, fab for all year round! Mistletoe Kiss is described on the Bomb Cosmetics site as “A luxurious oriental accord of patchouli, vanilla, warm spice and musk. A vibrant twist of mandarin, red berries and orange open the fragrance”, I do smell the fruit and vanilla, but at the same time, this candle is quite a light, fresh scent, while still having a warm, homely smell – just gorgeous! Snowberry Cupcakes is described as “A sweet treat of festive berries, glazed in caramel and sugar for a sweet cupcake delight. With pure myrrh and ylang ylang essential oils”, which I totally agree with! Again, its a warm scent and fills the entire room with it’s gorgeous fragrance, but it’s also super sweet, with fruity/ berry/ bakery scents all rolled into one beautiful, very girly candle.DSCF2734

If you can get to a Clintons any time soon, I’d definitely recommend keeping an eye out for these candles, particularly if you love sweet and girly scents. My Clintons also had other scents in Secret Santa and Chocolate Orange, but Bomb Cosmetics have a whole range of beautiful candles to choose from so it’s definitely worth a peek!

What do you think? What’s your favourite candle at the moment?
