FESTIVE GINGERBREAD RECIPE!
Hello everyone! I thought that for today’s post I would share a festive recipe with you since I love baking and may start posting more recipes on my blog. I thought it would be a good idea to make some festive gingerbread as it is Christmas time and gingerbread makes for a really nice festive treat. This recipe is super easy to do…all you will need is:
– 350g/12oz plain flour
– 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
– 2 tsp ground ginger
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon
– 125g/4½oz butter
– 175g/6oz light soft brown sugar
– 1 free-range egg
– 4 tbsp golden syrup
To start you need to sift together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon into a large mixing bowl and gently fold in together.
Then add the butter and blend until the mix looks like breadcrumbs.
Once that is done you can stir in the sugar.
In a seperate bowl begin to lightly beat the egg and golden syrup together and then add to the main mixing bowl and whisk together.
When the mixture has entirely clumped together, tip the dough out onto a flour coated surface and knead briefly until smooth.
Then wrap in clingfim and leave to chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
While the dough is chilling in the fridge you can preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas mark 4 and start to line two baking trays with greaseproof paper. Once the 15 minutes is up, roll out the dough out to a 0.5cm thickness on a lightly floured surface. Using cutters, cut out the gingerbread men shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between them. Then you can pop them into the oven for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden-brown. Once they are done leave them on the tray for 10 minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling. When they have finished cooling, you can begin to get creative by decorating with icing and cake decorations.
