Christmas Nails

Hello my loves!

So this year I have really been struggling to get into the festive spirit so I thought what better way than Christmas nails.

I don’t tend to use my gel products that often as the formula tend to dry out my nails which is the last thing you need in the colder months but what better occasion than Christmas to do something a bit special.

I didn’t want to go too crazy and out there with the design so I decided on French Manicure meets Santa with a it of festive sparkle.

It was fairly simple to achieve with first brushing on the classic French Mani and then waiting for it to be completely set with the UV lamp. I then used a bit of nail tape to cover the majority of the nail to prevent the glitter from creating a mess. You can get gel colours that already have glitter in the colour but I have always found that using loose gives a better finish and sparkle even though it is the more fiddly option. Simply layer/pat the glitter over a clear base coat till you get your desired look then apply a top coat.

The finished look did come out a tad messier than I desired but overall I’m happy with it.

What nail looks have you gone for this Christmas?

Comfort Balm – Ermana Skincare

ermana comfort balm

Hello My Loves!

Sometimes a single product comes along that manages to be exactly what your skin needs and before you know it your reaching for it every morning. That is precisely what Ermana’s Skincare Comfort Balm has become for me.

Described as a rich blend of natural butters rich in vitamins and anti oxidants which hydrate, condition, soften and protect the skin.

It is a versatile product that can be used on any area’s that need a boost in hydration. I particularly love it for my lips first thing in the morning, the blend of  natural butters and essential oils really help nourish my lips which make it the perfect base for those drying matte liquid lipsticks.

My other top use for it is for prepping those drier areas such as elbows and knees before applying fake tan. Just warm little product in your fingertips and wait for the balm to melt then apply. I always use this the day before I have a spray tan and in my opinion it really helps prevent the tan sticking to those areas.

All Ermana product’s are 100% natural and free from sulphates, parabens, artificial colours and fragrances.

Manicure Monday

barry m - personal best

Hello my Loves 🙂

For this week’s nail colour I’ve chosen Personal Best by Barry M.

With the sun finally making an appearance in Scotland this week I’m getting into the spirit of summer which for me means getting out the pastel nail shades.

The colour is from Barry M’s Speedy Quick Dry spring Range.

I would describe Personal Best as a dusty muted lavender, it’s a lovely shade as it’s not too bold and bright but rather a pretty and  delicate way to have a pop of colour on your nails.

I found the formula and application really easy, some drugstore nail polishes can be slightly on the thin side but I only needed 2 coats to get a nice even opaque finish.

They have a few other colours that I have my eye on so you my see more from this range.

Have you tried any of Barry M’s Spring Colours?

Manicure Monday

shellac creekside

Hello my loves!

It’s been a while but I am finally back with another Manicure Monday.

I’ve decided to be lazy and go back to my shellac roots as it’s just so much easier to maintain than constantly worrying if my polish is going to chip.

This time I decided on the gorgeous Creekside which is a stunning pastel blue. I’m usually quite cautious when it comes to blue shades as in my opinion they tend to wash me out a tad (I think it’s because I have blue undertone) but since I have decided to embrace summer with a bit of fake tan I think it doesn’t look too bad. The colour is coming off a wee bit paler on camera than in person, it looks more blue. It’s such an easy shade to apply as you really only need two coats for it to be fully opaque which is a plus for when you’re in a rush. and don’t want to sit and cure it.

The Body Shop – Polynesian Tiare

body shop poly

Hello my loves!

Now most of you know that I’m a huge Body Shop fan, they always have really good offers and promotions(perfect for gift buying) and I was lucky enough to be sent a few items from their new Polynesian Range.

I received the Shower Gel, Body Mist and Eau de Toilette. I believe that there may also be a body butter in the range. The colour scheme is a nice bright yellow with a flower pattern, perfect for the summer.

I would describe the scent as very tropical, it really reminded me of being on a nice Sunny Beach when on Holiday, it’s a nice mix of vanilla and coconut.

The shower gel creates a really nice lather from not much product so a little really does go a long way especially if you use a shower puff.  The scent does last a while for a shower gel which is a nice bonus.

I love Body Shops Body Mists to carry in my bag for a quick spritz throughout the day. The packaging is really nice and strong since it is a glass bottle so you know there’s not going to be any accidental leaks when your not looking. This scent it perfect for a quick refreshing pick me up when I’m stuck in the office. Again the scent is quite long lasting so you don’t need to go overboard with the spraying.

Last but by no means least is the Eau de Toilette. I think this is perfect for day wear rather than night time as I prefer a heavier scent (I love their Red Musk) I received so many compliments at work about what perfume I was wearing and so many were surprised it was from the Body Shop, most thought it would be something more expensive (I believe it will retail at £18) I did need a top up at lunchtime for the scent to stay prominent but you could still tell it was there it was just more subtle.  I think this would be the perfect perfume to take away with you on a sunny holiday or just to get you in the mood for Summer at home.

What is your favourite scent from The Body Shop?

Not worth the hype!

falsies maybelline

Hello my Loves!

Now I this post may be a controversial one as I know that this mascara has a lot of love in the blogging community but I’m just not one of them. I have tried on several occasions over the past couple months so see if I could get into it as I had really high hopes for it but alas achieving Gigi Hadid lashes its just not for me.

Maybelline claim the wand will add volume, lift and drama but unfortunately it did none of those for me. I found the formula clumped really easily with the rush design making it quite tricky to separate the lashes. I have been told on many occasions by my colleagues at the salon that I have really thick eyelashes so that probably didn’t help the situation. I did even try using a clean spoolie to help wiggle them free but no such left with the end result of me being left looking like I have roughly 5 lashes.

So if one of my friends asked for a recommendation for a high street mascara this one just doesn’t make the list.

No biggie, I’m not to upset over it as I believe I got it on offer on boots and I know Maybelline will be back with something better. This mascara just didn’t work for me but oh well it happens.

What mascara’s are you loving at the moment?

Manicure Monday

barrym almond

Hello my loves!

So before I start I first want to apologise for my shoddy application ( I never realised how bad my cuticles were) you would never believe I’m a trained beauty therapist from this shot.

I’m currently giving my nails a wee break from their usual Shellac as I’ve noticed they’re getting a tad dry so it’s given me a chance to actually wear some of my nail varnish collection.

This week I went with Barry M Almond from their Gelly Collection

Almond is a pale mauve almost taupe colour. It’s a chic easy to wear shade and has that sophisticated greige tone. It applied nicely with 2 coats easily giving it a good opaque colour.

Also I did find the formula of this seems to be quite thin in comparison to most polishes. I actually think a lot of people will prefer them this way as it will make them easier to apply for those that found the others too thick – unless you’re like me, I love thicker formulas, I think when your used to doing gel in the salon you tend to favour a thicker formula as it’s quicker to use by only needing 2 coats.

What nil colours are you liking for Spring?

Lush Easter 2016: Humpty Dumpty

Lush Humpty Dumpty

Hello my Loves

Lush seasonal collections have to be my favourite time of the year to pick up some bath goodies. They’re always fun and colourful and vibrant collections with plenty of amazing products I can’t wait to get my hands on and I was most excited for the Humpty Dumpty bath bomb. Now at £6.95 he is a pricey fellow but it should be used for 3 bath’s so I think it balances out (plus with the price of chocolate eggs these days I think its pretty reasonable) The egg “shell” should crack down the middle leaving you 2 halves and contain a mini fried egg inside that can be used for your third bath. I will admit that I found cracking the egg open a bit of a struggle and had to use a knife to get it to split which felt slightly cruel to Humpty.

Humpty has a really nice citrus scent – Brazilian Orange Oil and Bergamot Oil – which creates a lovely uplifting bath-time experience. The bath-bomb turns your water a beautiful vibrant blue and yellow that really creates the prettiest bath.

I loved this bath bomb I promise Humty Dumpty wont leave you hanging. 😉

Have you tried any of Lush’s Easter range?

Treat Your Skin – Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

elemis pro collagen cleanser

Hello my loves!

Now I’m a huge Elemis fan, so far to say it’s probably is the favourite product range I’ve ever worked with in my time as a Spa and Beauty Therapist and their Pro-Collagen Cleanser is easily in my top 3 products of theirs.

I was first introduced to the product when it first launched in Spa Treatments and was hooked from the get go.

I prefer not to use it as an everyday cleanser as I do find it can be a bit too rich for my skin, but when I want a proper pamper or an at home facial it works just the treat.

I just warm into the palms and then massage over the face, neck with light circular massage movements then remove it with a warm cotton cloth. Another great thing about this cleanser is that you can also use it as a mask, just massage it over your face a you would when cleansing but leave it on for 10 minutes before gently removing. I love doing this when in the bath as it smells heavenly, perfect for winding down before bed.

Now it is part of their Pro Collagen range which contains some amazing ingredients including Padina Pavonica which is a unique Mediterranean algae with proven outstanding anti-ageing benefits.  It has been shown that it stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycan’s (GAGs), responsible for the moisturisation, firmness and elasticity of the skin. Basically they found this algae on part of a ship wreckage and noticed that it had preserved it in really good condition compared to other parts where the algae was not present. It’s thing like this that make being a beauty therapist really interesting, I love when you find out the background behind the products your using for treatments.

Have you tried this cleanser? If, not what are your go to products for giving your skin a treat?

Friday Favourite

body shop bb cream

Hello my Loves!

With the weather in Scotland being absolutely miserable recently my skin hasn’t been the happiest.

I try not to wear as much foundation in the winter months to give my skin a chance to breath so the light coverage and hydration of this bb cream has been a saviour.

I often struggle to find bb creams to suit my skin tone as most tend to be far to dark for me and I’m left looking a touch orange so I was happy to see that the body shop’s  bb cream had a light shades available.

I buff it in with a real techniques expert face brush and I think  it blends really evenly and does give you a lovely hint of colour and pretty good coverage for a bb cream. For stubborn blemishes you will need a little concealer for them. But I just loved the dewy glow it gives my skin! Not one for those who like matte skin however, but i personally love the dewy look! Plus you can always pop a little powder on top.

Do you like bb creams?

If so, which one’s would you recommend.
